Documenting Space: Infrastructure and Informal Settlement

Independent Researcher

Conducted 10+ hours of independent ethnographic fieldwork across 2 site visits in Roranwala, an informal settlement enclosed by two gated developments in Lahore. Documented infrastructural inequality across sewerage, waste collection, water storage, electricity, and land tenure through participant observation and unstructured interviewing. Traced the settlement's encirclement over 20+ years (2003-2026) using historical satellite imagery alongside original photographic documentation. Analysed informal land-tenure arrangements, including "stamp paper" ownership operating entirely outside any formal registry.
