Accessibility and Inclusion Associate (1-Year Contract)

The Office of Accessibility and Inclusion (OAI) at LUMS is the focal point for students, faculty, and staff for all matters relating to inclusion, campus diversity, and equity. We aim to make LUMS a safer and more inclusive campus, equally owned by all members of the community.

The Role

As an Accessibility and Inclusion Associate, you will be at the heart of our mission to provide equitable opportunities. You will collaborate across departments to implement academic accommodations, maintain vital records of support, and ensure our campus remains accessible to all.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaboration & Inclusion: Effectively collaborate with team members and other departments to devise and implement plans to make the experience at LUMS more inclusive for both students and staff.
  • Liaison Support: Liaise between the Accessibility Committee and persons with disabilities, including connecting them to the Committee for determination of their accommodation requirements.
  • Student Engagement: Conduct regular, periodic meetings with persons with disabilities and maintain records of these interactions to assess emerging needs and decide on appropriate courses of action.
  • Access Requirements: Seek and record information on access requirements of persons with disabilities at LUMS. Ensure requirements for students with physical disabilities are identified and communicated to relevant departments, schools, and faculty well ahead of classes.
  • Advisory: Guide and advise students with disabilities interested in seeking admission and enrolment at LUMS on available facilities and accommodations.
  • Referrals: Refer students with disabilities to CAPS for psychiatric counselling arrangements where required.
  • Policy & Service Development: Develop, implement, review, and revise practices, services, and policies related to the delivery of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility.
  • Gender & Harassment Support: Support initiatives related to gender inclusion and work closely with relevant stakeholders to address and prevent harassment, ensuring a safe environment for all.
  • Digital Presence: Prepare, maintain, and update website material and manage/grow the social media presence for OAI initiatives to ensure effective communication of services and support.
  • Data & Reporting: Maintain records of interactions, analyze the effectiveness of accommodations, and compile reports on compliance and program efficacy.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any additional duties as assigned by the department.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bilingual Communication: Ability to communicate well in both English and Urdu.
  • Tech Proficiency: Proficient in the use of computers and well-versed with MS Office and the usage of AI.
  • Business Communication: Skilled in professional correspondence, including letters and emails.
  • Data Management: Experience with database management and analytical reporting/analysis.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Social Sciences, Psychology, Gender Studies). A Master's degree is desirable.
  • Experience: 0–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Nice to Haves: Experience with social media management tools (Canva, Buffer, etc.), familiarity with specific assistive technologies/screen readers, or prior experience within the LUMS ecosystem.

Working at OAI

  • Location: Onsite at LUMS (Room 0-12, SAHSOL Building).
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Business hours often extend into evenings and weekends to accommodate workloads and event schedules.
  • Benefits: Monthly salary and leave entitlement.
